One of the biggest trends in wellness right now is Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). Scroll through social media or flick through a glossy magazine, and you’ll spot countless celebrities and influencers sharing their glowing post-treatment photos and singing the praises of this gentle yet powerful therapy.
Unlike traditional deep-tissue massage, which often goes by the motto “no pain, no gain,” MLD offers something completely different: a light, rhythmic, and calming approach that works in harmony with your body’s natural lymphatic system.
So, what does it do?
Main Benefits of MLD:
- Reduces inflammation
- Helps with bloating and digestive discomfort
- Eliminates water retention
- Supports immune function
- Improves circulation
- Promotes the removal of toxins and metabolic waste
In essence, MLD acts like a system reboot. Think of it as giving your body a deep internal cleanse—helping to clear stagnant fluid, reduce puffiness, and leave you feeling lighter, clearer, and more energised.
And it’s not just physical benefits. The gentle, flowing movements are incredibly soothing and can leave you with a deep sense of calm and wellbeing—ideal if you’re feeling stressed, burnt out, or in need of a reset.
Whether you’re recovering from surgery, looking to support your immune system, or simply curious about trying a new way to relax, MLD could be just what your body needs.

Post-Op Care
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is essential after plastic surgery and is often recommended by your surgeon. A course of treatments can be discussed with your therapist based on your needs and recovery goals.
We have three MLD therapists at Natural Balance. Please let us know the nature of your surgery or treatment in advance so we can match you with the most suitable therapist.
Lucinda – one of our MLD therapists – also offers Brazilian Lymph Drainage, trained by the renowned Flavia Morelatto.
This method is a little more vigorous than traditional MLD, using different strokes with a strong focus on the stomach and legs to de-bloat and contour the body. It still offers all the usual benefits of MLD but often with faster, more visible results.
Lucinda also offers Sculpting MLD, which uses handheld tools such as cups and gua sha to break down fatty tissue and fascia. This helps reduce the appearance of cellulite and target stubborn fat. It’s an ideal treatment to tone and shape before an event or holiday, and works best as a course of three sessions.
