Is Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) right for me?

By Lucinda Jones, Massage Therapist at Natural Balance Therapies.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a massage used to stimulate the lymphatic system. It’s incredibly gentle and performed without oil and can be very relaxing.

The body’s primary lymph nodes are opened, and slow, rhythmic moves encourage the lymphatic system to work more efficiently, removing toxins and waste.

Benefits of this treatment include:

  • Decrease bloating.
  • Reduce swelling.
  • Supporting the Immune system.
  • Speed up detoxification.

It is also commonly used pre and post-op and may be recommended by a surgeon to:

  • Aid recovery and healing
  • Disperse swelling and fatty deposits
  • Limit scarring
  • Reduce the risk of clotting and lymphoedemas.

Because of the gentle and unobtrusive moves, it is also helpful for general relaxation, trauma, pregnancy and recovery post-illness.

Manual Lymph Drainage is also very effective in facial treatments. It can help drain sinus areas, reduce puffiness, clear breakouts and improve the skin’s general appearance.

The natural facelift massage I offer includes MLD, deep massage moves, aromatherapy, and acupressure. It tones, sculpts and lifts the skin leaving it fresh and glowing. In addition to the face, the neck and shoulders are massaged too.

Manual Lymph drainage sessions can be booked for 35 minutes, suitable for one or two areas of the body or 60 minutes for the whole body and face.

Don’t forget to get the go-ahead from your surgeon if still under their medical supervision.
